Course Offered

B.V.A. Degree (Visual Arts ) CBCS system

The syllabus is designed to encourage creative instincts and craftsmanship.  The First and Second semester is intended to initiate the students into the rudiments of art and to develop their basic skills in visual art.  It also provides them with an introduction to several avenues of visual art so that they are able to make an informed choice.

 

Painting:

 

In this department, students learn drawing and image building.  They also learn drawing from objects, drawing from nature, study of models, water color handling, oil color handling and exploring different methods and media in the light of contemporary art and ideas.

Graphics:

 

 

Created images are made into limited artistic editions with the help of master blocks with good old classic methods.  Lino cut, wood cut, metal plate etching, lithography, serigraphy and photo etching with new fine art techniques are adopted in the course curriculum.

 

Sculpture:

 

 

Clay modeling, portrait study, life study, wood carving, stone carving, metal casting, terracotta and scrap sculpture are the main features in the course of study.  Also there is freedom in creating creative 3 dimensional works in different media.

 

Applied Art:

 

 

Here the use of visual language is a strong tool of communication. The present digital society needs visual communication in all walks of life. Poster designing, page layout, logo and computer graphics are some examples from the big basket of Applied Art.

 

Photography & Photojournalism:

 

This unique course started by the University of Mysore gives an opportunity to learn the techniques of photography with a creative edge.  Photojournalism with its candid images and photographs reaches the masses effectively.  This course study with practical and theoretical knowledge makes one a powerful photojournalist.

 

Art History:

 

 

 This course teaches one the development of visual language through the ages in the light of cultural, socio political and philosophical thoughts.  One learns Indian Art, Indo Islamic Art, European Art, Far Eastern and South Eastern Art. Contemporary art and ideas, art criticism and art appreciation are inbuilt features of this course.

 

Languages, Compulsory papers and workshops:

 

Language selection shall be as prescribed by the University of Mysore and exemption from the study is as per the rules and regulations of the University for the B.V.A. (C.B.C.S.) examinations.  Examination and syllabus of The Constitution of India and Environmental Studies shall be as prescribed by the University of Mysore. 

 

 

M.F.A. Master Degree (Visual Arts ) Annual System
